NEW ORLEANS - November 16-18, 2018 - Follow the French path all the way to the Québec reception! From November 16th to the 18th, Languages Canada (LC), participated in the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) 2018 annual convention and world languages expo.
Languages Canada hosted a booth and participated in exhibitions along with representatives from five French programs from Collège Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, Édu-Inter, ILSC Montréal, the University of Montreal and the Montreal YMCA. On November 17th, with the support of the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL), LC organized a reception “On the French language”. This networking reception was a wonderful evening reuniting some sixty key individuals from the French education sector in the United States and around the world. Languages Canada gave a presentation on the Canadian francophone sector as well as a raffle offering three French as a second language courses to be taught in schools in Montreal and Québec. Anne Doctrinal from ILSC-Montréal considers this event as very valuable, stating “ACTFL gives us the opportunity to meet professors and to recruit students who wish to learn French. The Languages Canada reception also gives us a chance to discuss with key stakeholders from the French education sector in the United States”.
During this event, Languages Canada’s goals were to:
• Ensure a strong representation of French programs and of Languages Canada;
• Network with different stakeholders and representatives of the francophone sector of Louisiana and elsewhere;
• Establish partnerships with associations or local and international schools;
• Maintain close links with CODOFIL - the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana.
Geneviève Picard from the Faculty of Continuing Education at the University of Montréal, indicated that "ACTFL is a wonderful opportunity to take part in communications regarding research that influences program development and improves the quality of teaching and learning languages. It’s also an opportunity to meet teachers and school administrators to discuss potential collaborations."
