EduCanada’s new international education brand welcomed by the language education sector

OTTAWA, February 24, 2016 - The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of International Trade, welcomed Canada’s new education brand, EduCanada yesterday. The new logo and name were developed in collaboration with the provinces and territories to help attract the best and brightest international students to Canada.

“International students enrich Canadian society, enhance learning opportunities in the classroom and contribute over $8 billion annually to communities across Canada,” said Paul Davidson, president of Universities Canada, on behalf of the Canadian Consortium for International Education. “Canada has a lot to offer international students – a high-quality, safe, and welcoming learning environment, as well as pathways to employment and even citizenship for those who so desire – but there is intense international competition to attract them. CCIE welcomes today's news, which shows that the Government of Canada is committed to renewing and updating how we can attract international students to Canada, augment our own innovation and prosperity, and take our place in the world."

More than 130,000 international students come to Canada every year to learn English and/or French, and up to 30% of them stay after their language program to further their studies in a Canadian university or college.

“Languages Canada applauds EduCanada's new brand direction. It sends a clear message that Canada is ready to move forward in actively marketing Canada's offering as a leading study destination. Language programs are a gateway to Canada’s world-class universities and colleges, immigration and the workforce. They are international ambassadors promoting their province and city, its attractions and advantages to international audiences. We are very excited to see how this new development will impact growth and innovation for the language education sector,” says Gonzalo Peralta, Executive Director, Languages Canada.

Language programs generated $1.5 billion in export revenue for the Canadian economy in 2014.
