OVERVIEW

NAIT’s English as a Second Language Department provides high quality, professional language training designed to suit a variety of language learning needs. Study full-time or part time. Day and evening options available. Enhance your writing and grammar, build confidence in speaking and pronunciation, and develop your academic reading and vocabulary skills.

DAY PROGRAM

Develop core language competencies in writing, speaking, listening, and reading in this comprehensive program. NAIT offers six levels of ESL instruction, from high beginner foundational English (levels 1, 2 & 3) to English for Academic Purposes (levels 4, 5 & 6). A placement test determines your starting level.

Full time and part time options are available. Students who complete the program meet NAIT’s English Language Proficiency entrance requirement, and are ready for success in further academics. Semesters are 15 weeks in length with options in the morning and afternoon.

SHORT COURSES

20 hour workshop-style courses allow you to focus on specific language needs. Focus on your academic writing, or strengthen your pronunciation, listening, and speaking skills. Class sizes are small to ensure customized feedback from your instructor.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

If you need to provide proof of English Language Proficiency (ELP) for your application to a NAIT program, an option is to take NAIT’s English ELP exam. Prepare for NAIT’s ELP exam by taking a 20-hour ELP-Intensive prep course where you will learn test taking strategies and develop the skills necessary to pass the NAIT ELP Assessment Exam.
